* An environmental study suggests a cotton bag needs to be reused 131 times before it is environmentally preferable to 1 single-use plastic bag at stores; so keep reusing one cotton bag, whether you purchase it here or not, and stay committed, in order to make a difference.

* If you already own a cotton bag of some kind, keep reusing that one instead of starting over by buying this one. It would be more beneficial for our environment. Please read the important item note section of this page, for more information.

Important Item Note

 * An environmental study suggests a cotton tote bag needs to be reused 131 times before it is environmentally preferable to 1 single-use plastic bag at stores; and this number is higher if it is organic cotton. Therefore, keep reusing one cotton bag, whether you purchase it here or not, and stay committed, in order to make a difference.

* If you already own a cotton bag of some kind, keep reusing that one instead of starting over by buying this one. It would be more beneficial for our environment.

* From the standpoint of plastic pollution in our oceans, a cotton canvas bag is a helpful choice, but only if it is consistently used. Plastic is harmful because once introduced to an environment, it can take anywhere from 20-500 years or longer to decompose, depending on the materials used. For example, single use plastic bags found at stores take approximately 20 years to decompose; while plastic bottles take approximately 450 years. When plastic sits in landfills, it releases harmful chemical substances into our soil and water. The burning of excess plastic waste in open air, as a disposal method, also leads to the release of harmful chemicals into our air. Oil, gas, and coal are the building blocks of plastics, and this only adds to the unsustainable pace of drilling for these fuels.

* Plastic is not the only factor that has caused the issues our environment faces now, but it is a large component; and reducing personal usage, while finding responsible ways to dispose of it, is something everyone can contribute to, immediately.

* Recycle, or begin to recycle, the plastic bags, bottles, products etc. that you do use, if they can be recycled at all. Unfortunately, the majority of the plastic we use cannot be recycled, or is viewed as too costly to do so and will end up in landfills.  If you must use plastic, reuse it numerously before recycling.  With any materials, cotton included, think: reduce and repurpose.

* Consume less, and create more. We cannot purchase our way into a better future.
